Eco tourism is responsible travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas that strive to be low impact and (often) small scale (as an alternative to mass tourism). Its purpose is to educate the traveler; provide funds for ecological conservation; directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities; and foster respect for different cultures and for human rights. Generally, ecotourism focuses on volunteering, or volunteerism, personal growth and environmental responsibility. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. One of the goals of ecotourism is to offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.
Recently we returned from a 14-days trek with a friend in the Annapurna Himalayan range. Boasting spectacular scenery, rugged terrain and extremely welcoming locals, I’ve never visited another place on earth like Annapurna.

Helping us get the most out of our trek was our friendly and knowledgeable guide Sanjib Adhikari, a specialist trekking guide and expedition organizer based in Thamel, the bustling heart of Kathmandu. He skillfully guided us across treacherous mountain passes, pointed out the rich variety of flora we passed and, in the evening after hiking, served our meals and played cards with us.

Knowing that there are quite a few other less capable and experienced guides than Sanjib, I’d certainly recommend him to other trekkers. His website is: www.nepalguideinfo.com

Annapurna Base Camp trekking is a outstanding Trekking on the hill of the Annapurna south specially designed for those trekkers who love to enjoy the flora and fauna, panoramic view of the Himalayan range in a comfortable way including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak and other Himalayan ranges.

It is an ideal trekking best called as a typical walk right into the heart of the mountains and our gentle walk start from lowland to the wonderful high mountains with breathtaking view of the Annapurna range. The walk ends at a point where you are virtually surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks.

The trekking involves numerous ascents and descents but not so hard to challenge as there are many alternative routes to the sanctuary, all meeting at Chhomrung.

This trekking provides an excellent opportunity to experience the enthralling glimpse of rich culture, typical Nepalese lifestyle and ultimate excitement of trekking in the Himalayas at the high elevation.

Annapurna Base Camp TrekkingAnnapurna base camp trek is famous for trekkers. The principal peaks of the western portion of the great Annapurna Himal, including Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna, Ganagapurna, Annapurna 3 and Machhapuchhare, are arranged almost precisely in a circle about 10 miles in diameter with a deep glacier-covered amphitheater at the center. From this glacier basin, known as the Annapurna Sanctuary, the Modi Khola knifes its way south in a narrow gorge fully 12,000 ft. deep. This trek goes through Namche Bazar, the famous market town of the Khumbu region. On the way to Namche you will see your first distant views of mighty Mt Everest. Namche and its neighbors Khumjung and Kunde, are home to many Sherpas who have made their names synonyms with high altitude mountain climbing. Namche is a traditional trade centre at the height of 3440 m.. People from different villages in this area and even from Tibet gather here for various types of trading, especially on Saturdays for the local market. After having an acclimatization day in Namche and seeing marvelous panoramic views of snow-covered mountains like Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum, kangaru, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc. you will find the awesome beauty is hard to explain in words. You will walk the route traveled by the famous mountaineers of the world for this is the route that leads to Everest Base-camp. Kala Pattar is a lofty shoulder of Pumori, reroute to Everest Base Camp. From here you will have breathtaking views of Everest and all her wonderful neighbors.

Everest Base Camp Trekking

The Everest Base Camp trek is the most famous trekking route in the world and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable. Nepal is a fascinating country and the trek gives an insight into the lives and culture of the Sherpa people. Our ascent is steady and well paced to best suit the acclimatization needed. Sunrise on the snow capped peaks above the Khumbu Glacier is an unforgettable sight from the summit of Kala Patthar. This trek is one for the lover of high places and those wanting to push themselves to the limit. It is a tough challenge and not to be taken lightly with generally well graded paths but some tougher sections along the Khumbu glacier.

The superb trekking to the Base Camp of Mount Everest is recommended as one of the important sites to be visited before one dies. The Everest trekking is well-known because of the friendly Sherpa people, colorful festivals and the Buddhist monasteries. The region is known as Khumbu and has been bounded in the Sagarmatha National Park, the world heritage site. Sagarmatha is the Nepalese name of Mount Everest, the top of the world. Sherpas, the famous climbers are the dwellers of Khumbu region. Many expedition teams can be observed on this trail during April and May heading higher with an aim to be on the top of the world.

Everest base camp trek is a great introductory lodge trek that offers sensational mountain views and an insight into the lives of the Sherpa people. After exploring the historical Kathmandu city we take an exciting mountain flight to Lukla and trek up the Dudh Kosi Valley, surrounded by the soaring peaks of Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru. It’s a steep ascent to Namche Bazaar, capital of the Kumbu Sherpas, where we are again greeted by spectacular mountain vistas. A rest day here aids acclimatization and there are great optional walks to enjoy the area. We then follow the trail to famous Tengboche, located high on a ridge where a magnificent 360-degree panorama awaits. The views of Everest, the Lhotse-Nuptse Wall, Ama Dablam and Kantega dominate this peaceful and spiritual location – surely one of the most tranquil and inspiring places in the world.

While passing Buddhist monasteries views of Everest get closer every day. This stunning trek visits both, Everest base camp and Kala Patar (5555m), a viewpoint recognised as the best vantage point to see Mount Everest which is a premier goal for many adventurous walkers in the Himalaya. After trekking to base camp and Kalapattar we return at our leisurely pace back to Namche and Lukla for our return flight to Kathmandu.

For the more adventurous trekkers you have the option of returning over the Cho La pass to the Gokyo valley and side trek to Gokyo Ri.
